We tend to base our self esteem on what other people think, and that’s not really self esteem. Self esteem is supposed to be how we feel about ourselves.
In the past I allowed people’s stories about myself to become a perceived truth. Back then I didn’t realise that I was allowing this to happen. I started to write my own stories based off of people’s opinions and they became an embedded belief system that caused me probably more pain than I even realised.
A wonderful teacher of mine (@ellesweetmantherapies) gifted me a powerful practice and an opportunity to create my own stories that are infused with honesty, power and integrity. I invite you to do the same.
1️⃣ Grab a blank piece of paper, put a line down the middle and title one side ‘stories that are not mine’ and title the other side ‘I’m reclaiming these stories instead’.
2️⃣ Go ahead and brain dump all of the stories you or others have told you about yourself, especially the stories that are not kind or productive in the ‘stories that are not mine’ column.
3️⃣ Next, you can rewrite these stories and reclaim them as your own. You hold the power and even have a responsibility to yourself to figure out how to take that pain, overcome it and build a happy life for yourself.
Give yourself the opportunity this weekend to rewrite your story and develop new belief systems that actually serve you in a positive way.
